Winnwood holds the most adult nights we found: three 18+ nights a week. It also keeps a Facebook group just for its adult-night crowd. Bring ID: it's required at the door for every adult session.

River Roll is run by Pam and Skip Clinton, former National and World Roller Skating Champions, and their daughter Ashley, a National Champion, helps manage it. Monday's 18+ night is built for rhythm, shuffle, old-school and ballroom skaters, and rentals are included in the $12.

Overland Park is the only Johnson County rink with two confirmed adult nights: Tuesday's Old School night and Thursday's later session that runs to 11 PM.

Family owned and operated since 1985, Northland Rolladium skates on a smooth, seamless epoxy floor. Rentals are free with admission on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, which makes Wednesday's $6.50 Cheap Sk8 one of the best deals in the metro. Posted prices are cash prices before 9.85% sales tax, and card purchases carry a 4% convenience fee.

This rink opened in 1975 as B&D South Skate Center. Today it's run by Jake and Michelle Olah, and Jake has skated here since he was five. The last Saturday of the month brings roller derby events, and Adult Night runs twice a month: the first Saturday from 10 PM to 1 AM and the last Tuesday from 7 to 10 PM, and admission for both is $8.

Rink Ratz bills itself as the one and only graffiti rink in Kansas City, and it's the "Official Home of the Limbo Queen." It has a new skating floor, free Skate Mate walkers for beginners, and kids 4 and under skate free except on Friday nights and at special events.

The Merriam rink has the cheapest weekend admission in Johnson County at $7 and a Glow session on Fridays. Its new Saturday Adult Night is 18 and older, runs from 9 to 11 PM for $8, and starts right after the public session ends.

SK8SHOT bills itself as Kansas City's first and only professional roller skating school. It's a rhythm-skating studio founded by Knejie Allen, not a public rink. It runs weekly beginner classes, a Saturday open session, and a $49 New Beginner Bootcamp (rental skates included).
Most rinks above also teach. Winnwood has Saturday lessons at 10:30 AM, Northland Rolladium runs a Tuesday Learn To Skate class, and all three Skate City rinks offer 4-week youth beginner programs.

First-time tips for KC rinks
- Bring a card. River Roll takes debit and credit only (no checks), and asks for ID with cards.
- Leave the snacks at home. Skate City and River Roll don't allow outside food or drink.
- Dress for the floor. Skate City asks that pants not reach past the soles of your skates.
- Beginners: Rink Ratz lends free Skate Mate walkers (first come, first served), and Winnwood and Northland Rolladium both run beginner classes.
- Want a bargain? Try Northland's Wednesday Cheap Sk8 ($6.50 with free rental) or a $6 day session at Skate City Wyandotte.
