Coming soon: Blues Park outdoor roller rink (18th & Vine)
KC Parks is building a 16,000 sq ft outdoor roller rink with restrooms and stands at Blues Park. Reports in May 2026 gave an opening target of August, or before the end of the year. We couldn't confirm it has opened as of Sept 29, 2026, and we'll add it once it does. (KCUR report)
Outdoor skating tips
- Go soft on the wheels. Outdoor wheels (softer, bigger) make trail cracks and grit much easier.
- Watch the hours. Johnson County streamway trails close at dusk; KC Parks' Blue River Greenway and Loose Park are open 5 AM to midnight.
- Skate early. KC Hiker notes Loose Park gets heavy foot traffic, so weekday mornings are your best bet.
- Check closures. The western section of Coffee Creek and Mill Creek's Northgate trailhead are closed right now.
- Wear the gear. A helmet and wrist guards matter more on concrete than on a rink floor.
